South Salem Class of '68
Fifty Year Reunion

What were you doing FIFTY years ago?  Remember those friends you used to look forward to seeing every day?  Where are they now and what have they been up to?  Wouldn't it be great to see them and catch up, relive old memories and renew old friendships?  And make new friends?

Fellow Saxons - plan to attend our 50-year high school reunion. It will be the chance of a lifetime to get reacquainted with old friends and classmates.  Get on the phone, Facebook, email and reach out to everyone you know.  The more Saxons we can all get to attend, the better the event.

1968 was one of the most important years of the century. The Vietnam War, assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, President Johnson signed The Civil Rights Act, Hair opened on Broadway and Bob Beamon broke the long jump record at the Mexico City Olympics.  And you graduated from South Salem HS!

"A Rose is a Rose is a Rose, but a Saxon Rose is an inspiration" - quote from our Principal, Carl E. "Pappy" Aschenbrenner, Master of Roses and Dandelions.

The years from 1965 to 1968 went by so fast but were all critical in shaping the citizens we are today. Salem had a population of 49,000 when we were in school and it seemed like a smaller town. We went to Bob's 19 cent Hamburgers, Shakey's Pizza, Ren's Hamburgers, Drive-in movies we cruised the gut, saw movies at the Elsinore and the Capital and the Grand. We attended The Oregon State Fair, picnics at Bush Pasture, swimming at "the Little North Fork", EJD Dances at The Salem Armory. We worked on our parents farms, in the bean and berry fields, and later in the numerous canneries. These activities and many others shaped our young lives.

We have lost classmates along the way and will have a place where we recognize these honored classmates at our event.

The plan is for all to have a comfortable and casual evening together with a lot of time to catch up, chat, and enjoy a good meal together. Remember the next one is 60 years and we do not want to wait 10 years to see old friends and meet new ones.  PLEASE ATTEND!!!!

Date:  Saturday, August 25, 2018

Location:  Illahe Hills Country Club

Cost:  $84.00

You are encouraged to get your tickets soon, while it is on your mind. If you know of anyone who will not or cannot attend due to the cost of a ticket, please let Reunions With Class know (just give them a call). We will have "scholarship" help that we want to extend (confidentially, of course) to those who could use a hand. The most important thing is to get as many Class of '68 Alums there as we can.
